Getting Started with Freigent

Set up Freigent in under 30 minutes

The First 5 Things to Do

You've created your account. Here's how to get Freigent working for you in under 30 minutes:

1. Add Your Drivers (5 minutes)

Go to Assets > Drivers and add your drivers. You need:

  • Name, phone number, email
  • CDL number and state
  • Medical card expiration date

You can add them one at a time or use bulk import to upload a spreadsheet. If you're an owner-operator, just add yourself.

Why this matters: Freigent needs to know who's driving so it can assign loads, track HOS, and manage compliance.

2. Add Your Vehicles (5 minutes)

Go to Assets > Vehicles and add your trucks. You need:

  • Year, make, model
  • VIN
  • License plate and state
  • Equipment type (dry van, reefer, flatbed, etc.)

Add trailers separately under Assets > Trailers.

Why this matters: The AI needs to match loads with the right equipment. A reefer load can't go on a dry van.

3. Connect Your Email (5 minutes)

Go to Settings > Email and connect your dispatch email. Supports:

  • Gmail
  • Outlook / Office 365
  • Any IMAP email provider

Why this matters: This is how the AI reads load offers from brokers and handles negotiations. Without email connected, the AI can't do its job.

4. Connect Your ELD (5 minutes)

Go to Settings > Integrations and connect your ELD:

  • Motive (KeepTruckin)
  • Samsara
  • Geotab
  • Verizon Connect
  • Omnitracs

Why this matters: ELD data gives Freigent real-time driver locations and HOS status. This powers the Fleet Board, driver assignment, and load monitoring.

5. Install the Chrome Extension (2 minutes)

If you use DAT or Truckstop for load boards, install the Freigent Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Why this matters: The extension lets you pull loads from the board directly into Freigent for AI evaluation and booking. No more copying and pasting load details.

What Happens Next?

Once you've completed these 5 steps:

  • The AI starts monitoring your email for load offers
  • Your Fleet Board shows real-time truck positions and HOS
  • You can start accepting loads and letting the AI manage the lifecycle
  • Compliance tracking begins automatically

Setting Your Preferences

Before your first load, set up your preferences in Settings > Automation:

Rate Preferences

  • Minimum rate per mile — the AI won't accept anything below this
  • Target rate per mile — what the AI aims for in negotiations
  • Max deadhead miles — how far you'll drive empty to pick up a load

Lane Preferences

  • Preferred lanes — corridors you like running (e.g., Dallas to Houston)
  • Avoid states — states you don't want to run through
  • Home base — where your drivers live (affects home time routing)

Automation Level

Start with AI Suggest mode for everything. The AI will draft responses and recommendations, but you make the final call. As you get comfortable, you can increase autonomy.
